USAID-SCHEP Brings New Voices to Jordan’s ICHAJ Conference

Other Announcements

ACOR Wishes everyone a Happy and Blessed Eid al-Adha in September. ACOR in Amman will be closed according to the schedule that will be announced by the Jordanian government. The Islamic Holiday is expected to begin on Sunday 11 September or Monday 12 September 2016 and many institutions in the public and the private sector in Jordan will be closed for four days.

Upcoming public lecture in Amman: Wednesday 28 September 2016 at 6 pm ACOR-CAORC Senior Fellow in Residence Dr. Suzanne Richard will speak on the topic The Levantine Early Bronze Age: Re-evaluation and New Vistas.

The Distinguished Career of ACOR Chef Mohammed Adawi

In 2015, ASOR (the American Schools of Oriental Research) recognized Chef Mohammed Adawi with the W. F. Albright Service Award for his outstanding service contribution to ACOR. Jordan’s Cultural Caretakers — SCHEP Launches “Site Steward” Program

In July 2015, ACOR hosted a workshop as part of SCHEP’s new “site steward” program, which empowers local community members to care for and preserve Jordan’s cultural heritage sites. Ten young Jordanians received training in cultural heritage best practices, antiquities laws and regulations, and the role of communities in protecting heritage sites.

Ambassadors Fund Renews Support for TWLCRM

The U.S. Ambassadors Fund for Cultural Preservation has awarded a 15-month continuation grant for ACOR’s TWLCRM Initiative in Petra. The grant, which was launched with a formal visit to the site by U.S. Ambassador to Jordan Alice G. ACOR Library

The ACOR Library is an important resource for students and scholars in Jordan. It is one of a few public places in Amman offering access to the JSTOR online database of articles from over 1,000 scholarly journals. The library books do not circulate so plan your visit to allow time to take advantage of its many resources. To search the online catalog and review new online materials, visit the library website.

The ACOR Library has grown over the years, often thanks to the gifts from scholars of their own publications, as well as the annual contributions to support the library and the Anne C. Ogilvy Memorial Library Endowment. From time to time, scholars bequest their personal collections to the ACOR Library after consulting with the Head Librarian Carmen Ayoubi. Please support the ACOR Library and contribute to scholarship in the Middle East.

The ACOR Library hours are Saturdays, 9 am–4 pm and every weekday from Sunday until Thursday, 8 am–4 pm. Telephone +9626 534 6117 ext. 305.
