The American Center of Research is producing the next volume of Archaeology in Jordan (AIJ) .
The aim of AIJ is to raise academic awareness about archaeological work being undertaken in Jordan, and also to make it more accessible to a wider audience.
Archaeology in Jordan 4 will present short reports of highlights of your fieldwork projects in Jordan during your 2022 and/or 2023 fieldwork seasons; if you had seasons in both years, then you should report concisely on the results from the two seasons in one short submission.
We are also seeking, for the cover of AIJ 4, a compelling photograph that conveys some aspect of archaeology in Jordan. If you have a photograph you would like to submit for consideration and it is not already included in your report, you may do so. The photo need not be related to your report. Please note the inclusion of such a photo in your submission and be sure to provide a caption and credit.
If the article is a joint one, please provide full name, academic affiliation, and email address for each contributor.
We would be grateful for your assistance in notifying any of your colleagues about this call for submissions, just in case they are not on our email distribution list or do not follow our social media.
The deadline for receipt of submissions for AIJ 4 is April 1, 2024.
The general guidelines for submission are given below, and you may also consult the most recent Archaeology in Jordan as a model. Please note that the editors will make final decisions regarding submissions.
Guidelines
Text
Submissions should be no more than 600 words. Longer articles will not be accepted. We cannot accept more than two references per contribution; ideally there is only one or none, but do include your project website address if it has one. Texts should be submitted in English as Microsoft Word documents, with 12-point font size (Times New Roman is preferred).
Images
Please submit no more than three illustrations (photos, plans, line art, etc.) for consideration. Please also ensure that all graphics have clearly identifying file names and that you include a separate list of captions that correctly corresponds to the graphic file names and in-text call-outs. Make sure you have provided the correct image-credit line. Authors are responsible for obtaining permission to use the images prior to submission. Please rank the graphics in order of your preference.
Please also be aware that images published in Archaeology in Jordan may be reused in the American Center of Research’s blog and social media posts, newsletters, annual reports, publicity materials, and similar contexts. This allows us to spread the word about your work, Jordan’s rich heritage, and our mission, all of which will, in turn, help the American Center continue serving the archaeological community and keeping the public informed, interested, and engaged. Any reused images will be appropriately credited. If you do not wish us to reuse a particular image in this way, you must indicate so with your submission; we will be happy to comply.
Images must be in one these formats: .tif, .psd, .ai, .eps, and .jpg. Submit all photographs in their original state as taken by the camera when possible (i.e., do not resize or convert color to black and white; but do convert raw format to .jpg or .tif). All photos should have a minimum resolution of 300 dpi for an image that is 6 inches (15.5 cm) wide (i.e., they should be at least 1,800 pixels wide); plans and line art should have a minimum resolution of 1200 dpi.
The deadline for receipt of submissions for AIJ 4 is April 1, 2024.
Please send your submissions to aij@acorjordan.org. Include all documents (text and images) in a single submission, using, if possible, a link to a file-sharing service (Dropbox, WeTransfer, etc.) for large files. If you must send large files as attachments to emails or cannot send all your files at once, before you send any files please first let us know at aij@acorjordan.org.
We will send you confirmation emails once your materials have been received and/or downloaded.
Please feel free to contact us at aij@acorjordan.org if you have any questions about the submission guidelines or process.
Please send your submissions as early as possible! Again, note that articles of more than 600 words will not be accepted.
We look forward to receiving a report of your project and thank you for submitting to Archaeology in Jordan.
Yours sincerely,
The Editors:
